About Us
The Retina Center of Vermont was created with two important factors in mind, the quality of your eye care and the way you are treated at every visit. "We treat you like we treat our family" exemplifies the level of caring that is exhibited from the very first phone call to all of your office visits. Dr. Weissgold selected each staff member for their outstanding ability in eye care and also for their love of being with people. Providing compassionate, quality care in an educational environment is what we're all about.
Highly Trained and Caring Staff
The Retina Center of Vermont employs many ophthalmic assistants who have extended their training and have become certified by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). To become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) one must complete 1000 hours of training under the supervision of the Retina Specialist. Once training is complete a COA must get re-certified through JCAHPO every two years.

Carmelita Katon (Surgical Coordinator/Front desk Coordinator/Tech in training) Carmelita has an Associates degree in Science from Champlain College. She has been in Ophthalmology for 7 years. |

Angie Andrews (COA) Angie is a graduate of St. Michael's College and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. She has been in Ophthalmology for 11 years. |

Candice Greaves (COA in training) Candi has over 10 years of experience in the medical field. |

Dennille Austin (COA) Denille has been in Ophthalmology for 3 years. |

Nancy Kaplan (Business Manager/ IT Professional) Nancy has over 20 years of experience in Medical Office Systems. |

Zhanna Akey, BS, CPC, CCS-P (Reimbursement\Patient Accounts Manager) As a certified medical coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders, Zhanna is professionally trained to ensure that the charges accurately represent the services that were performed on the day of your visit. She has extensive experience in dealing with insurance companies and other payers. She also owns A$Z Medical Administrators, Inc, a medical business consulting firm that works with other private medical clinics in the area. |
